George Trail Translation Services was set up by George Trail in 2008. George has a BA French and German from the University of Kent (2001-2005). This included studying for a year in France at the University of Poitiers. Indeed, with his university education in the field of languages, he indeed possesses the English language qualifications necessary for ensuring professional standard English in his work.

After finishing Kent University, I went on to undertake a postgraduate level course in translation at the University of Portsmouth, which I completed in 2006. I decided to set up George Trail Translation Services in 2008 as I wanted to use my distinguished language skills to make a living providing accurate translations to people in need of them.

I operate from my home base, which allows me to carry out translations in a tranquil environment, helping me to ensure that all translation work is carried out accurately and efficiently. I specialise in translating documents and information from both French and German to English.

I specialise in translating information in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files. In addition to this I can also offer proofreading and transcription work. I am also currently expanding my services to offer subtitling to a range of industries. It’s at the heart of George Trail Translation Services to ensure my clients benefit from accuracy, diligence and patience. I have a desire to be helpful in all aspects relating to the services that I offer.

PROFILE
This is to advertise my services as a professional translator (French and German to English). While it is widely known that simply replacing words with words is never a sensible idea, I know how true it is that producing professional quality translations goes far beyond just being able to re-phrase things aptly and coherently. I’m very vocal about this in my blogs on my Facebook profile.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Professional experience at time of last update (on 12 October 2020): 12 years. I can translate 3,500-4,000 words in a day if I’m available all day (I usually am). By default I charge per word in the source material – anywhere between 0.06-0.09 Euros / word depending on how difficult and urgent a project is. Proofreading: no less than 0.03 Euros / word.

I have a record of in-depth translation study and experience from a postgraduate degree course in translation studies at the University of Portsmouth (2005-2006).

BA French and German, University of Kent at Canterbury, Class 2.2, 2001-2005.
Included Year Abroad at the University of Poitiers, France. Graduated June 2005.

WORK EXPERIENCE
I have completed translation projects in the following areas (this is by no means an extensive list):

* Academic / creative / marketing (in my case a series of textbook articles; promotional material and presentations; websites among other things)
* Business and legal (in my case formal correspondence; b2b stuff, like tenders, business-to-customer or visa versa; propositions involving national and international authorities; terms and conditions articles; contracts and leases among other things)
* IT / technical (in my case a patent and technical drawings, instruction manuals, safety regulations among other things)
* Medical (in my case patients’ reports – I have already translated many of these for the Ministry of Defence)

My approach to translation
Just because a sentence may fully obey all the various rules of its language does not mean that it really makes sense (for the sake of example, this is a true statement seen in a job application covering letter: “I am fascinated by fire.”). I’m concerned with loyalty to the original text as well as “proper language”.

I do my work on a laptop running Windows Vista
Good knowledge of MS Word and Excel; knowledge of Powerpoint
Typing speed definitely more than 60 wpm now
Basic HTML
Familiar with Adobe (currently using Version 9)
CAT tools: I have some limited experience with MemoQ and Memsource.
